Villa Fidelia Bianco Sportoletti: The Shelter of the Soul among the Umbrian Hills
Nestled among the green splendors of the hills of Spello and Assisi, the Villa Fidelia Bianco Sportoletti is an emotional journey through the unique scents and flavors of Umbria. Leggi di più
The grapes, cultivated with love and dedication on sun-kissed soils at an altitude of 400-500 meters, tell the story of a wine enveloped in the enchantment of the Umbrian landscape.
The Terroir of Beauty
The soil, with its medium-textured composition tending toward sandy, gives the vines perfect permeability. The roots, sinking deep down, feed on the geological history of these lands, creating an indissoluble bond between the mother rock and the fruit of the winemaking art. The Dance of the Seasons
The harvest, which began after Ferragosto with Chardonnay and followed by Grechetto in early September, is the magical moment when nature offers itself generously to the hand of man. The grapes, harvested with care and respect, carry with them the story of the entire life cycle, from bud to ripe bunch.
The Heart of Vinification
The grapes, vinified separately to enhance their aromatic characteristics, are transported to the winery and immediately destemmed. Through the use of dry ice, the temperature is quickly lowered, allowing optimal aromatic extraction and protecting the grapes from oxidation. Alcoholic fermentation takes place in French oak barrels, where the wine finds its haven of maturation and complexity.
The Harmony of Refinement
After months of resting on its lees, the wine finds its full expression in the bottle, where it rests for at least a year. The result is a straw yellow with green-gold highlights, which gives the nose aromatic notes of honey, hazelnut, butter and vanilla, caressed by delicate nuances of pink grapefruit and exotic fruit. In the mouth, it reveals a pleasant density and persistence, with a rich, balsamic finish that envelops the soul in an embrace of authentic beauty.

The Sportoletti family, with generations of experience in agriculture, has always approached winemaking with passion. Leggi di più
In the late 1970s, brothers Ernesto and Remo, inspired by their father Vittorio’s teachings, decided to focus exclusively on viticulture. In 1979, they produced their first thousand bottles under their own label. Since then, they have embarked on a journey to find the perfect balance between innovation and tradition, striving to maximize the potential of their land—the rolling hills of Spello and Assisi—where the estate’s 25 hectares (about 62 acres) of vineyards are located.
The Wines
The winery currently produces five wines: Assisi Rosso DOP, Assisi Grechetto DOP, Villa Fidelia Bianco IGP, Villa Fidelia Rosso IGP, and Villa Fidelia Passito IGP. Over the past decade, annual production has stabilized at approximately 200,000 bottles. Since 1998, the company has benefited from the prestigious expertise of enologist and agronomist Riccardo Cotarella.
At about 500 meters (1,640 feet) above sea level, near the edge of the Monte Subasio Park, the estate also has 2,000 Moraiolo olive trees, used to produce an exceptional Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
The Vineyards
The winery’s 25 hectares of vineyards are located in the hills of Spello and Assisi, all within the Assisi DOC designation. A gradual renewal of the vineyards has led to a more rational, quality-focused approach, with high-density planting and the “cordone speronato” (spur-pruned cordon) training system, which helps regulate bud load and plant productivity.
For their premium wines, a green harvest is conducted at the start of veraison, ensuring an average yield of about 1 kg of grapes per vine.
Among the cultivated varieties is the native Grechetto, where the G5 clone, less productive but richer in character and typicity, was chosen. Chardonnay, used in the Villa Fidelia Bianco, grows at an altitude of 500 meters on the slopes of Monte Subasio.
For red grapes, special attention is given to Merlot. During vineyard renewal, a clone from a 50-year-old Sportoletti-owned vineyard was selected and propagated, proving to be one of the estate’s key strengths. Similarly, less productive but polyphenol-rich clones of Sangiovese, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc were selected for planting.
