Only the finest grapes, carefully selected from eight different vineyards, are destined for this extraordinary wine. We vinify the varieties separately, including Grechetto, Vermentino, Chardonnay, and a hint of Procanico, and then skillfully blend them to create a wine that celebrates the richness and identity of our terroir. Decugnano’s Il Bianco is an ode to minerality, a perfect balance of freshness and complexity, a synthesis of the extraordinary vocation of our lands.
Wine Profile:
Denomination: Orvieto Classico Superiore DOC
Varieties: Grechetto, Vermentino, Chardonnay, and a hint of Procanico
Vinification: Stainless steel
Alcohol Content: 13.5%
Harvest takes place in September, carefully following the ripening cycle of the different grape varieties. Each cluster is manually harvested, with care and respect for the delicacy of the fruit, and transported in small crates to preserve its integrity.
Vinification:
Vinification is characterized by a gentle pressing of the grapes, previously cooled to preserve their aromatic qualities. Fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, at a controlled temperature of 14°-16°C, for a period of 15-20 days, during which the must slowly transforms into wine, retaining all its freshness and vitality.
After fermentation, we refine the wine for six months in stainless steel containers, where it matures and enriches with aromatic complexity. Subsequently, it rests in the bottle for at least six months before being ready to meet the palate of our most discerning enthusiasts.
Get ready to immerse yourself in a unique sensory journey, where the taste of our Orvieto Classico Superiore “Il Bianco” will lead you to discover the hidden secrets in the hills of Decugnano dei Barbi.

We believe in respect of nature and territory, attention to detail and constant experimentation.
Above all we strive to produce elegant wines, extremely smooth and with a strong identity, appreciated by refined customers all over the world.
At Decugnano wine has been made since 1212. The Barbi family continues this tradition.
The meaning of Decugnano’s name is unknown, lost over time. The first written testimony dates back to 1212, when wine was made at Decugnano for the clergy in Orvieto. These were the lands of Saint Mary of Decugnano.
In 1973 Claudio Barbi discovered Decugnano and it was love at first sight. The first wines were produced in 1978 and the success was immediate.
Marine originated soil and a perfect ventilation. To craft elegant and unique wines.
Geological eras, time, and the hands of mankind have all contributed to a unique terroir.
The soil is an ocean floor from the Pliocene period. The vine roots are exploring into the sandy clay-soil, among fossils of sea shells and oysters, enriching our wines with minerals and marine flavors.
The altitude over 300 meters (1,000 feet), favors ideal ventilation and a diurnal temperature variation emphasises aromas. The optimal exposure guarantees the perfect maturity of the grapes.
Sustainability.
We do not utilize insecticides, anti-botrytis, chemical fertilizer and weed killer.
We adopt integrated production reducing our treatments to a minimum, through our constant attention to the climate and the health of our vines.
