Montefalco Rosso Mattone Briziarelli strictly adheres to the regulations, comprising 60% to 80% Sangiovese and 10% to 25% Sagrantino. The production may include red-berry grapes, non-aromatic, from other vines suitable for cultivation in Umbria. Aromatic Characteristics:
On the nose, the wine is intense and persistent, with notes of blackberry, black cherry, and blood orange. Violet takes center stage among the flowers, followed by a pronounced black pepper note from the Shiraz, complemented by nutmeg and cloves. Toasted hints of ground coffee, dry tobacco, and sandalwood emerge. The finish introduces dusty notes, graphite, and potpourri, leading to a delightful balsamic touch of resin and licorice.
Taste Profile:
In the mouth, a fresh acidity is perceptible alongside fine tannins, resulting in an overall balanced palate with good salinity and pleasant persistence. It represents the most elegant expression of the region, a wine with a complex, charming, and intriguing bouquet. Its evolution in the glass is continuous, gradually revealing its aging potential with each sip.
Winemaking:
Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks with maceration on the skins for about 25 days. Malolactic fermentation takes place separately for the different varieties, which are then transferred to French oak barriques for at least 12 months. After this phase, the final blend is created, resting in stainless steel before the ultimate bottling. The refinement is completed in the bottle for an additional 6 months.
